Is It The Right Thing For Me Join The War After College
In life, we are constantly faced with situations and scenarios where we have to make choices. Deciding which choices we make is often times determined by what we deem as right and wrong. There are no clear-cut, black and white answers to these questions, so we have to take it upon ourselves to do our best to make the right choices. Imagine this, your country is heading to war, and you want to help serve your country against the terrorists attacking your home. So you go to school majoring in the enimes language. However, while going through school it is discovered that your country is using extreme tactics like torturing prisoners of war. Would you still join the war after college? What is the right thing to do? The first question you should ask yourself is ââ¬Å"is the war and the tactics used morally justâ⬠. The answer to that is yes. The next question you should ask is ââ¬Å"is it the right thing for me to join the warâ⬠. The right thing to do is to continue helping you r country and going to war. It is the right thing to do because the actions taken were just, and fighting in the war in the end will bring peace and happiness. So how could torture be considered just? Mill states, actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness. This is saying that in order for an act to be ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠it must bring as much pleasure or happiness as possible while avoiding as much pain as possible. Torture is a horrific act.
